Professor Jihad

Note: I started to edit this post from yesterday for clarity, and I've already screwed up the html. Now, as the note after says, I'm again late for work. At least the links work. Maybe I'll have another go at it tomorrow.-ed

I picked the Boston Globe for this story, which publishes all the way on the other side of the country, and I feel oh so continental. It’s about a guy working on his doctorate in a university in Idaho that’s part of a program sponsored by the NSA. In his spare time, he ran a web site and email group calling for Jihad and recruiting young suicide bombers, including appeals to Muslims in the US military to commit treason. His lawyer thinks this is OK.

The following is an excerpt from the Rueters story via Yahoo:

Friends, supporters, colleagues, and university officials have testified Al-Hussayen is a peaceful person who condemned the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and led a blood drive for victims. They said he has a strong desire to clear his name and finish his studies.

This story sounds a little too familiar. Here is the story about the Florida University professor that was arrested amidst much gnashing of teeth last year also. He even had loose ties to the White House through certain friends. Money quote from the article, His arrest was immediately criticized by Council on American-Islamic relations.

This also brings to mind another knucklehead out of the Pacific Northwest who worked for Intel. The money quote from this article,

"People say this doesn't happen in this country," McGeady said, "but one of my neighbors has been disappeared. It's not what he might have done that matters to me -- they disappeared him."

That last sentence kills me. It’s not what he might have done that matters. The ACLU also condemned the arrest. Here is the web site set up to free him. I guess they took down all the previous ‘Mike is innocent’ and ‘America sucks’ stuff, most likely because of this. To save you the trouble, he plead guilty and provided information on his fellow conspirators.

Are we safer now? Gail asks, “What further confuses me is how we, as a nation, have or have not reacted to the event of 9/11. Are we really safe now? Are we better prepared for future attacks, should, God forbid, they occur? Are the security measures put into place by airlines, which during the holidays seem to be a lot stronger than at other times, really enough?”

Not if we automatically attack the Government every time they arrest a Muslim. How do you react? These people are not criminals with rights. They are foreign agents. They are spies. They are the enemy. They want to do you harm. They are dangerous. One of the most terrifying things I saw on TV was a segment on O’Reilly last year about Arab women coming to the US to have their babies. They were not poor women. The guest and O’Reilly discussed the reasons why they did this. It is no mystery; these kids are now American citizens. They are perfectly placed to do future harm to this country. How is the CIA supposed to track these kids over 18 plus years? Paranoid, you say. I think not. It is just the judicious use of Occam’s razor. It is the most simple and pithy answer to the question. It’s not as if these women had rare diseases that could not be treated in their own countries, they had their fucking babies here.

One of the most maligned sites on the internet is Little Green Footballs. I used to go there all the time, but I stopped well over a year ago because I learned my lesson. It is simply that they are out to get us. Be careful of the comments section if you are the sensitive type, but the reporting and links are good. If you need to learn what is going on in and about Muslim terrorism, go there. Do a Google search for Bernard Lewis, (there, I did it for you, just click), or go here, to read a reasoned discourse by a respected expert (also accused of not nice things by the usual suspects), and find out why they hate us.

Note: It’s time for work and I’ve no time to edit, but I need to post something here. Let me know if the links don't work. Additionally, have sympathy for the vast majority of innocent Muslims that are the victims of suspicion for no reason of their own. After all, they can also be victims in their own countries, witness the mass graves in Iraq. But keeping your eyes open, and announcing out loud that you will have no mercy on those that have sympathies to terrorists will go a long way to make this country safer. If that brings on furrowed brows from certain civil liberties types, that is the price you pay for safety.
